Hello, I’m John Burt and I want to be your State Representative.

I was struggling with what I wanted to say today about politics and why I would make a good state rep. My wife told me, John, just be yourself. Tell the people who you are. They need to know that you are one of them and that you will do your best to serve them.

So, here I am. John Burt. I was born and raised in a small conservative Vermont town. We were poor by most people’s standards, but we didn’t know it. Most of my friends must have been poor. I will never forget what my grandmother told me one day. She was not a very nice woman. “John, it’s a shame that you will never make anything of yourself. You are poor.” I said, “But Grandma, this is America. I can grow up to do anything I want. I just have to work for it.”

I have 6 grandchildren and I would never think to say that to one of them. But it is sad to watch them and realized that they will not have the same opportunities that I had when I was a child. They have inherited debt at their young ages and a country that’s lost its course. I decided to run for office to try to take back the country that I love with its freedoms that are envied by citizens of other countries. My grandchildren and yours deserve a better nation.

I’m just an ordinary guy who has a passion for politics. I’ve served my constituents for 2 years. I never missed a House session. I served on the Municipal and County Government Committee where I can have the most impact on the lives of the people of Goffstown and all other cities and towns of New Hampshire.

I’m a small business owner. I share their struggles. I left Vermont because of their anti business policies. I see the same thing happening in NH. Small businesses create jobs. Government does not create jobs.

I’m a patriot. I love my country and I feel blessed to be an American.

I buy American made products whenever I can.
I believe in smaller government.

I believe that the only helping hand should be the one at the end of your own arm. Welfare is out of control. Teach a man to fish and he will never go hungry. Feed him and he’ll depend on you forever.

I believe that there is nothing more precious than your freedom.
I was privileged in September of 2010 to stand beside a Vietnam War vet and his family to show respect for a fallen US Marine, Philip Charte of Goffstown.

I’m not afraid to say no. I’m all for common sense. Don’t spend what you don’t have. Say what you mean. Don’t sugarcoat the hard decisions. There will be more hard decisions to be made to continue to improve New Hampshire’s economy and its Live Free or Die motto.

I do not want to be a lifer in the House of Representatives. I will step down when I am no longer needed or useful.

If you re-elect me, I will be available to you. I will use my website, TV show, and telephone to keep you informed. You may not always agree with my decisions but you will know why I voted the way I did.

I don’t have all the answers but I’m not afraid to find them either.

Vote for John Burt in the Primary on September 11th and in November and I will do my best to serve you as I have these past two years.

That’s a promise.
