TEDxAmoskeagMillyard to feature speakers discussing CO-Innovation in New Hampshire

Manchester, NH – A limited number of tickets are now available for the 2012 TEDxAmoskeagMillyard which will take place this Saturday, October 27th at UNH Manchester.  Tickets are available at no charge and are on a first come first serve basis.  To register for a ticket please visit www.tedamoskeagmillyard.org.  TEDxAmoskeagMillyard will be hosted by Virginia Prescott, host of “Word of Mouth” on NHPR.

The theme for this year’s TEDxAmoskeagMillyard is “CO-Innovation” and will feature speakers discussing a wide range of issues focusing on innovations that have been achieved through collaboration and how those innovations are changing the world.  “In my business, the world is changing everyday and many of the ideas I will be discussing seem to be better suited for Mission Impossible and James Bond movies”, stated Paul Schuepp, President of Animetrics, a leader in facial recognition software and a speaker at this year’s TEDxAmoskeagMillyard.  John Herman, a New Hampshire school teacher and well-known actor/ performer, will be discussing Co-Innovation in the Arts with a focus on social media, “Leonardo Da Vinci never had to worry about Facebook followers, and while Ernest Hemmingway might have loved Twitter, he never had to face its 140-character limit”.

Angela Chang from the MIT Media Lab will be discussing the idea of ‘tinkerability’ and asks the question, “What if children could actively explore and modify a story, through voice and touch, to dynamically explore meaning as conveyed by the relationship of text to illustrated concept?”  In simpler terms, what if a story could become more like a toy, something a child could interactive with, helping to advance their ability to read.  These are just a few of the TEDx talks slated for TEDxAmoskeagMillyard.  For a complete list of speakers please visit www.tedxamoskeagmillyard.org.

TEDxAmoskeagMillyard will be broadcast free-of-charge on the internet and will also be live streamed at the Red River Theatre.  This is the second time UNH Manchester has hosted a TEDx conference.  Last year’s TEDxAmoskeagMillyard featured the theme “The Unexpected” and showcased an impressive line-up of speakers including Howard Brodsky, Jeremy Hitchcock, Catherine O’Reilly, Gary Hirshberg, Ryan Fitzsimons, and others.

TEDxAmoskeagMillyard would not be possible without the support from local businesses and organizations including: UNH Manchester, Duprey Companies, Image 4, Dyn, Chill Spa, SOWA Entertainment, Network for Education, Good Good Manchester, XO on Elm, Stonyfield Farms, Puritan Backroom, Chrissis & Company Interiors and PixelMedia.

What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.  TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.  Our event is called TEDxAmoskeagMillyard, where x = independently organized TED event.  At our TEDx AmoskeagMillyard event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.  The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
