Store Clerk Avoids Blow From Hammer Wielding Robber

MANCHESTER, NH- On Thursday, May 23, 2013, at about 6:45 AM, Manchester Police responded to Maverick’s Gas and Convenience Store at 15 Willow Street for a report of a robbery.  On arrival, they met with the clerk who reported that a man had entered the store demanding money and cigarettes.  The man had his hand in his pocket, implying he was armed, possibly with a gun.  He handed the clerk a black plastic bag and told him to put the money and cigarettes into the bag.

The suspect then fled the store with the bag, but the clerk and two customers followed him out of the store confronting him outside.  The suspect then pulled a hammer out of his pocket, swinging it at the clerk.  The clerk was not struck, but the suspect was able to run off, north on Union Street, after abandoning the bag of money and cigarettes which was recovered at the scene.

The suspect is described as a clean shaven white male in his mid-thirties, about 6’00” tall with a “skinny build and white hair.  He was last seen wearing a blue jacket with the hood up over a baseball hat, blue jeans and black shoes that were partially covered with blue plastic bags.  He also wore latex gloves.

MANCHESTER, NH- On Wednesday, May 22, 2013, just before 8:00 PM, Manchester Police responded to the area of Lowell Street and Elm Street for a report of a man with a gun.  On arrival, police began checking the area and located a couple walking near Pine and Amherst Streets.  The couple reported that an unknown man had approached them in the alley behind McGarvey’s Pub on Elm Street and pointed a handgun at them.

According to the couple, they were walking in the alley when the man approached them.  The couple did not know the man, who commented to them that their friend had better watch out.  He seemed to believe the couple was acquainted with an individual who apparently had assaulted the man.
