The campaign of G O P gubernatorial candidate Walt Havenstein made a couple of announcements yesterday. If elected, Havenstein says he’ll hold town hall meetings in each of the state’s twenty four senate districts by the end of his first term. He also announced the endorsement of former Bay State Governor Mitt Romney, who said quote ““Maggie Hassan has been too busy thinking about running for the U S Senate in 20 16 to focus on the job at hand: fixing New Hampshire’s economic stagnation.” End quote.
Meanwhile, the campaign of rival G O P gubernatorial candidate Andrew Hemingway announced it has planned a “10 Counties, 10 Days Tour.” Hemingway will be spending time meeting voters across the Granite State. “The best way to represent people is to spend time with them and understand their needs, concerns and hopes for the state we all love,” Hemingway said. “I want to talk to as many people as possible about what they are interested in and how I believe innovative solutions are what we need.” The Tour begins today in Carroll County.

The New Hampshire Republican State Committee has asked the New Hampshire Department of Justice to investigate more questionable donations made to Governor Margaret Wood Hassan’s political committees. The complaint focuses on donations made by the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union PAC of twenty five thousand dollars in two thousand twelve and ten thousand dollars in two thousand fourteen. The N H G O P also asked Attorney General Joseph Foster to recuse himself from this investigation given that he served on Hassan’s 2 0 1 2 campaign finance committee and may have been involved with the questionable donation that year. Last week the Department of Justice found that Hassan had accepted tens of thousands of dollars in illegal contributions from three Big Labor PACs that also broke the law. “It’s time for a Senator who will unconditionally take sides with New Hampshire and act in the interest of a prosperous and stable economy and middle class jobs…” That’s what G O P U S Senate candidate Jim Rubens had to say is a statement commenting on a recent report released by the F D I C revealing that the too-big-to-fail Wall Street banks whose reckless practices nearly brought down the world financial system are bigger and riskier than ever and U.S. taxpayers are still on the hook for the next bailout. Rubens faulted Republican rival and former Bay State Senator Scott Brown and Democratic incumbent Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Health Care Queen for supporting the Dodd-Frank law Rubens, and just about everybody with a brain, argues has made the big banks it protected from bankruptcy even bigger and more vulnerable to collapse while hobbling smaller, community based banks that can’t handle the regulatory burdens imposed by the law. Rubens criticized Brown and Shaheen for taking millions in campaign contributions from Wall Street banks and other beneficiaries of the flawed law.
