MPD: Scam Alert

The Manchester Police Department is warning of a scam.  No, this is not a telephone scam, it’s a candy bar scam.  Seems that someone’s out there peddling candy bars in the name of the Boys and Girl’s Club.  Officials from the organization alerted police to the scam saying they are not conducting a fund raiser with kids selling candy bars.  Seems that whomever is selling these things is going to local convenience stores to do it.  The cops warn that anyone involved in the sale of candy bars would need a Hawkers and Peddlers permit.  So, I guess if someone approaches you about buying a candy bar to support the Boys and Girls Club, you should ask them for their permits or just know that no such fund raiser’s taking place.

Manchester Historic logoThe Manchester Historic Association is inviting the public to join them for the first Open Doors Arts and Cultural Tour of two thousand fifteen on Thursday, April 30.  These popular and free Trolley Nights, a community endeavor of the Majestic Theater, are organized each year to celebrate the amazing diversity of artistic expression and dynamic museum experiences that the city has to offer.  Two trolleys will circulate the same route that night between the hours of 5 and 8, stopping at each venue about every 30 minutes.  The trolleys start at Langer Place, but you can hop on at any venue.  Free parking is available at 55 S. Commercial Street and at 200 Bedford Street.  We’ve published the complete list of stops and all other details at Girard at Large dot com and linked to it from this news read.  Organizers say there’s always something new and surprising to see and enjoy for people of all ages.

Pataki: Names steering committee

Former New York Governor George Pataki announced a New Hampshire steering committee for his We the People, Not Washington PAC.  Pataki made an unscheduled call into the Girard at Large Radio Show yesterday just prior to his announcement.   In the interview, he acknowledged he was considering a presidential run, something he’s toyed with at least twice in the past, and said his experience and record as a Republican governor in a deep blue state gave him an edge over potential competitors.  We’ve linked to the interview in case you missed it.  Anyway, members of the steering committee for his PAC include District Seventeen State Senator John Reagan, Republican from Deerfield, District Twenty Four State Senator Nancy Stiles, alleged Republican from Hampton, Former State Senator David Currier, Republican from Henniker, Bruce Breton a Selectman in Windham, former chair of the Windham G O P and Girard at Large devote, and prominent Manchester businessman Ben Gamache among others.  Alicia Preston, a veteran political strategist and most recently the campaign manager for Andrew Hemingway’s gubernatorial campaign, is serving as Pataki’s Political Director.

That’s news from our own backyard, Girard at Large hour ___ is next.
