Shea-Porter: Sheee's baaaaack!

Shea-Porter:  Sheee’s baaaaack!

Former First District Congressman Carol Shea Porter, Democrat from Rochester, announced on Saturday that she will again run for the seat she’s won three times, but also lost twice.  Shea Porter defeated incumbent Jeb Bradley, Republican from Wolfeboro, in two thousand and six to win the seat the first time.  She defeated Bradley in a rematch in two thousand eight.

Former Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta toppled Shea-Porter in two thousand ten and in the process, planted the seeds of a campaign finance scandal that still dogs him today.  Shea-Porter staged a comeback in two thousand twelve, defeating Guinta on the back of the blue wave that swept the state.  Guinta won the rubber match last year and, despite the campaign finance controversy many consider a career ending scandal, Guinta has said he will run again.  In a settlement with the Federal Election Commission, Guinta was ordered to pay back three hundred fifty thousand dollars that Guinta said was his to spend, but an investigation concluded was a loan from his parents.  Guinta, who claimed an ownership interest in the account and said he’d contributed to it over his lifetime, did not disclose the account on financial forms.

Shea Porter will join businessman Shawn O’Connor of Bedford in the primary.

On Saturday, October third, Cornerstone Action and the American Principals Project will host a day long event entitled “Practical Federalism:  Stand up and Fight!” at Southern New Hampshire University.  The objective of the forum is to examine how overreach by the federal government is directly opposed to the view of the Framers of the Constitution, who held that state elected officials must guard against federal intrusion.  Cornerstone’s aim is to make this a central issue in the public square. This forum will raise the consciousness of the state’s legislators, activists, and Republican base, who will then challenge the 2 0 1 6 Presidential contenders to tell voters what they (the candidates) have done and will continue to do to fight federal encroachment.  Confirmed Presidential hopefuls include, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina and Rick Santorum.
We’ve posted links to the event and all you need to know to register with this news read at Girard at Large dot com.  Use the following code to register for just 15 dollars!

Probably not the Teacher of the Year winner.

Probably not the Teacher of the Year winner.

The two thousand sixteen New Hampshire Teacher of the Year will be announced today.  Each year, New Hampshire schools take part in the state and national Teacher of the Year Program.  The National Teacher of the Year Program is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers in partnership with the Voya Foundation and People to People Ambassador Programs.  According to a media advisory sent by the Manchester School District, the award is the oldest and most prestigious honors program to focus public attention on excellence in teaching.  While the advisory mentioned the time and place of the surprise announcement, that information is embargoed and may not be released.  It did not contain the name of the teacher who’d won the award, which we’re assuming will be released in a follow up statement after the ceremonies are concluded.

Duffley: Will sing for the Holy Father

While we’re on the topic of congratulations, we’d like to offer them to our Number One Fan Christopher Duffley!  As you know, Pope Francis is on his way to the U S A and Christopher will sing for the Pontiff in Philadelphia.  Just the thought of it gives me chills.  Well done, young man.  You and your family have certainly earned it.
