Potential get away car

Members of the Manchester Police Department Special Enforcement Division, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Drug Task Force, executed a search warrant at 50 Sentinel Court, apartment 3 0 6, on April 2 7th, looking for twenty four year old Preston, also known as “P,” Thorpe.  While they didn’t find Thorpe, officials did find trace amounts of Carfentanil, a drug so powerful, it’s used to tranquilize elephants.  Given that the apartment appeared to have been cleaned out, police believe Thorpe may have fled the area, possibly headed to his native California.  He was last seen in Manchester on the day the search warrant was executed.

Nationwide search

Working with the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, the department has prepared a nationwide extraditable arrest warrant charging Thorpe with Possession of a Controlled Drug.  The cops want this guy and are asking for the public’s help.  Thorpe is described six foot three, two hundred ten pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.  He has a sleeve style tattoo on his right arm and hand and a large tattoo on his left forearm.

Wanted: Preston “P” Thorpe

Investigators believe he may be operating a newer model Audi A 4 2.0 T with New Hampshire temporary plate number 2 0 8 9 0 5 0.  It has a TEAM NISSAN, MANCHESTER, NH decal above the A 4 moniker.  He may also be driving a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer registered in his name with N H plate number 4 0 2 3 4 6 1.  Police say they don’t know if he still owns the Mitsubishi and that he may be traveling with twenty eight year  old Ashley Arbogast, also of 50 Sentinel Court.   She is described as 5’01, 1 5 6 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes.  She has tattoos on her left arm and hand.

If you have any information about the whereabouts of Thrope, you are asked contact the Manchester Police Department at 6 6 8 8 7 1 1 or Manchester Crimeline at 6 2 4 4 0 4 0, where you  may leave an anonymous tip, yet still be eligible for a cash reward should your information lead to Thorpe’s arrest.

Kassel: Announces candidacy for mayor

The Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen met last night.  Mercifully, it was a relatively short, but eventful meeting.  Before the actual meeting got underway, Jeff Kassel, considered the godfather of the city’s tax cap, announced he would be a candidate for mayor, complaining that the board had ignored the intention of the cap by passing expensive labor union contracts.  He told the board that it was those lucrative labor deals that gave rise to the cap in the first place, saying that thousands of folks like himself on fixed incomes couldn’t afford their big spending ways, saying that municipal employees were enjoying a far greater standard of living than the taxpayers paying for them.  He also pointed to the legacy costs of city employees, noting the significant unfunded liability in the state and city pension systems.

Zoning change allows expansion on Second St.

Among the items approved by the aldermen was the proposed zoning change near Manchester Subaru, where a residential parcel was rezoned for business purposes to facilitate the expansion of the business.

The Board of School Committee’s request to reallocate previously designated bonds to new projects, including a fence around the playground at Jewett St. School, libraries at Webster and Weston elementary schools and fitness center upgrades at West and the School of Technology were also approved.

Long: Budget games afoot?

Alderman at-Large Joe Kelly Levasseur successfully moved several budget items off the table, but again failed to gain approval for his oft made motion to fund the school district at the level proposed by the mayor.  During that discussion, Board Chair Patrick Long said that he had a budget proposal ready to go, but wasn’t going to bring it forward until he had ten votes.  When Levasseur questioned whether or not that meant he was going to override the tax cap, he said no, but he was anticipating he would have to override the mayor’s veto, to which Mayor Ted Gatsas said if he wasn’t going to override the cap, he probably wouldn’t have to worry about a veto.  Interesting…

News from our won backyard continues after this.

Senate advances reform bill

The N H Senate Health and Human Services Committee voted unanimously to recommend H B 4 0 0 ought to pass with amendment.  The bill provides additional resources for mental health care and provides much needed relief to the New Hampshire Hospital and the Department of Health and Human Services which has struggled to keep pace with the number of cases dealing with patients who suffer from mental illness.  The amendment also makes key reforms to the Division of Children Youth and Families to ensure our laws prioritize child safety.

The Old Man: Gone from the mountain, but not from our memories

As we close out the news this morning, it was fourteen years ago today that the Old Man of the Mountain fell to the ground somewhere between Midnight and two A M.  Daniel Webster once famously said that the Old Man’s presence atop the mountain was evidence

in the mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men.”

Not sure what he’d say about the Old Man’s death or what evidence it provided about men!
