Here’s the link to the Agenda:

Hoping that the internet will be working at TFA tonight so I can blog LIVE!

    Patrice Benard

(Well bless my soul, they must be anticipating fireworks tonight! I walked into the Upper Caf to be greeted by Maureen Mooney chatting it up with a police officer!!! What an expense to the taxpayers! Our little school of ~300 students requires a Police Detail at what cost to the taxpayers? Their threats and intimidation tactics may work on some, but not on a Mom, especially the Mom-At-Large!)

I spoke during Public Comment, will update later

Jane Cormier- spoke about the DeVos visit, just gushing and “just thrilled” with the visit. (Any friend of Maureen’s….)

Conner – a student – School Visitation Policy. Feels like the there could be some wording changes.
Felt like he was pushed away during the DeVos visit, the prescreened questions did not allow us to represent who we are as a school.

    Patrice Benard

Minutes of April- Motion to Approve including the statement by Mrs. Lavallee that the Budget is indeed based on anticipating 380 students next year. Motion passes.

    Patrice Benard

Childers – STudent Rep Report – TFA Talent Show, Spring Fling, Field Day HS trip, DeVos visit, VanEwyk wants Senate to change/revise yellow slips that include “archaic language from the first year”

Faculty Report- Gaumont- PD day, discuss benchmarks and finalized for last day of the school year. Per Ms. Hayes directive, these will be included in the rubrics of each course.

Discussed Sr Project at the Curriculum Committee. (Yep, an illegal meeting that was not posted nor open to the public)

(just a note, I thought Matt Mercier’s term expired this month? How can he be chairing this meeting?)

(This faculty has changed the entire nature of the Sr Project as it was originally proposed in the Charter. That’s sad, and, illegal)

    Maureen Mooney, Dean’s Report – https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ux3h8qCseUYxDKtAbpXF8MP-yBRtX1b1u75btha1w3U/edit

Student Services are attending end of year Special Ed meetings (no one at TFA is certified in Special Ed, but what the heck)

She plans on adding a new committee, all by herself, called the Mission Committee, compiled of Teachers and Administrators.

PSAT scores are out. Good news! (this was not released prior to the meeting. Hopefully there will be a link released after the meeting.) (They will be published in the Parent’s Email on Friday. It’s a mixed bag)

Thank you to parents for Teacher Appreciation Luncheon.

    Patrice Benard

    Treasurer’s Report

Not sure what was referred to in Public Comment. Assures people that there was nothing intentionally misleading on the report.

(Ha! They don’t know how to read!!!)

    Patrice Benard

Admissions Report, by Lavallee from Mrs. Hyotte.

(No mention of outgoing transfers…. because they have been leaving by bigger numbers than they want to admit)

    Patrice Benard

BTW – Note that Trustees Best, Scarpone, and Ouellette are not present tonight. Hmmmm.

    Patrice Benard

Mackenzie proposing a change in Charter graduation requirements. ( This was not made public before the meeting, could not be commented on by parents, and should not be passed by this board without going before the public. But we shall see)

Proposing eliminating Digital Portfolio. Instead of Personal Finance AND
Accounting/Entrepreneurship, make that an OR, then 1 credit as elective. Will keep 3.0 credits in Business/Technology

(I hope Mercier realizes this is a change in the Charter and requires approval, public comment, etc…. sigh)

(No vote taken, guess they get to do what they want, whenever they want)

    Patrice Benard

Scantlebury proposes a very expensive Summer Research proposal that would take students to Ecuador for the first time. Would give student 0.5 credit. Cost ~$3000 per student. Realizes that this could raise questions. (She gave a hand-out and did think of some concerns that come to mind.)

Lawton brings up fundraising. Scantlebury is not comfortable having the burden of fundraising.

(you know, in a school that claims to have the humanities as a cornerstone, isn’t it a bit odd that the first high price elective is in Science? She should work at ASD)

Lavallee – couldn’t the PTSA do this? Lawton- PTA requires that they fundraise for ALL students.

Mercier – I think this is a fabulous idea. Thinks Ms. Scarpone could put together guidelines to fundraise for themselves, like a GoFundMe page, getting a job, etc…..

Upshot – to be determined in June. Mercier says there seems to be a general sense of approval. Lavallee adds that Kim Scantlebury and her fiance donated a luncheon during PD day.

    Patrice Benard

PTSA Report – Lawton calls herself a parent rep, commenting on the process by which she was elected. (read – hand picked)

School dances – great job. Time to separate MS from HS. (yes, it is) Mrs. DiPietro can’t do both. Parents would have to step up. Some middle school parents don’t get it. High school parents understand the issues. (very good points)

Gaumont – as a dance chaperone, next year we could have seniors and 6th graders in the same room. There are issues.

Lavallee says maybe 6/7 and 8-12. (nope, 8th graders aren’t in high school)

Humphrey says let the Senate decide. They do need to feel like they have their own identity.

Mercier- where should we send this? Humphrey- to the Senate. Questions raised about if this is policy. Mooney discusses past practice, she handles it all herself. She would do this in the future.

Lawton- PTSA planning on forming a Prom Committee. Humphrey wants the kids to have say in those things that are just social things.

Childers will bring it back to Senate.

    Patrice Benard

Mercier- talking about Policy Committee. Let’s Connor know that the Visitor policy can always be amended to address his concerns.

Visitor Policy, as presented in April – passes.

Medication Policy, as presented in April – passes.

    Patrice Benard

    New Business-

Mercier asks to ratify the vote of January to make Mercier Interim Chair and Humphrey vice-chair.

On separate motions, they both pass. (but isn’t his term up????)

    Patrice Benard

Mercier wants to make a motion to have parents contact the board thru the clerk, not via individual email accounts.

    Lawton…… supports this.

    [email protected]

Lauren clarifies what should she do with emails?

Board decides to send them to Matt Mercier only.

Lavallee says someone rec’d 3 emails from former Board chair and was uncomfortable.

Humphrey asks why everything we do has to be a policy?

Lavallee says we should set this to paper.

Mercier wants to table and bring it up at Policy Committee.
