Goonan – we are having safety issues at the Central Fire Station. People are getting into our cars. People live back there – defecating. It’s an ongoing problem. We want to tighten up the facility. I think it would be great to tighten up the facility.
Levasseur – I’d like it to go to committee and then come out.
Goonan – I got an estimate of 90,000.
mayor – get some better estimates and come back. report to public safety.

Long – I think the Union Leader did a great job covering high school graduations. I thought their speeches blew me away. I commend Alexandra Terrio. These are people that live above and beyond what a graduate lives. This is Manchester. I’m proud of these three people that spoke on behalf of our school district.
Hirschmann – Victoria, customer service rep was very good. She got an officer Okeeno to track down the individuals in the fire to get their cars back. When we had the fire at the west side. Many of them were only given one night’s lodging.
mayor – they were supposed to get 3 nights.
Hirschmann – I think our commissioner to help any way they can.
Long – the red cross takes care of them 3 nights. The Way Home will give you a down deposit. I’m hoping to get ahold of the landlord so he can release their security deposit. I think they were living paycheck to paycheck. THey can get the security deposit and the state program.
mayor – I think the city also funds security deposit funds.
Long – we have homes funds that they qualify for?
city employee – yes. they come from home funds.
mayor – chief Goonan, can you tell them if they come in, that we’ll help them get where they need to go?
Goonan – yesJune 7, 2016 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen on June 7, 2016 #45029
mayor – the United Way will help them on the business side
Levasseur – where is the money coming from?
Sanders – we have 300,000 dollars. total surplus was 2.4 million
mayor – motion
All in favor of giving 100,000 to Granite United Way to fund Amber’s Place.June 7, 2016 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen on June 7, 2016 #45028
O’Neil – can we find out what happens when people don’t have insurance?
mayor – medicare covers – I’ll get info to you. United Way is paying for Amber’s Place. Other people want to help the United Way to fund Amber’s Place.
Sapienza – we’ll see how the money will be spent as they spend it on a monthly basis?
mayor – yes
Long – we’re going to ask questions and the reporting will go to Mr. Lafrenier first and then we’ll know.June 7, 2016 at 8:10 pm in reply to: Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen on June 7, 2016 #45027
Hirschmann – I hope people support the Granite Hammer. I gave a statement tonight supporting our MPD. We can support the MPD more this weekend. Our canines will compete with others.
Long – motion to appropriate 100,000 to Granite United Way for Amber’s Place. I can answer any questions.
O’Neil – can they report to the special committee on alcohol and drugs?
Long – yes
Hirschmann – will this continue after this? How soon will they come back for more?
Long – one year. Other entities are interested in funding the balance.
mayor 89% of people staying in shelter for help. I think they should report back monthly instead of quarterly.June 7, 2016 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen on June 7, 2016 #45026

Barry – commend Chief Goonan and the firefighters for their work and the two fires. Job well done, thank you
Pappas – I echo alderman Barry’s words. I’d like to recognize the Police department for the great job,. I was on Rimmon St during lockdown. It was scary, but I think the MPD did a good job and I motion of a vote of confidence.
Levasseur – I know the people who came in here were good people. When there is evidence that is out there and there is a gun out there – it is extremely important for many reasons. You don’t know who’s going to find that gun. That finding of that gun was directly linked to that person. The gun helped link the person to it. The MPD had an investigation. If a 4 year old or 7 year old had played with that gun, .these guys would be crucified. I feel like a victim in this city. You leave your car unlocked for 5 mins people steal things. We’re good people. These guys defending us – they don’t know what they are walking into it. There is another part of the story. this whole city is always afraid. we need to say and think well. I tell them to keep safety in mind. Police lives are just as important as ours. I understand those people who came in today. No police officer wants to make people stay in their homes. A vote of confidence is a good time to do it. I don’t want to disparage people’s opinions. We live in a city that is tough right now and families are afraid. We need police officers. (paraphrased)
Motion for vote of confidence for MPD.
