Senate Bill 1 9 3, the bill that allows parents to establish Education Savings Accounts for their kids, is one step closer to becoming law after receiving an “Ought to Pass” recommendation from the House Education Committee yesterday.  That was a bi-partisan vote with two Republicans voting against the bill and two Democrats, including Manchester Ward Nine State Rep. Open enrollment for the thousands of Granite Staters who will select an individual health insurance plan through Health Care dot gov or directly from an insurance company has begun.  In making that announcement, Governor Christopher Sununu said residents who will be purchasing a plan need to be aware that rates have gone up by an average of 5 2 percent due, he said, to the failure of Obamacare reform and rising medical and pharmaceutical costs.  The governor did say that those receiving taxpayer subsidies through the program likely won’t see a difference in what they pay because of subsidies.  Everybody else,...

With Manchester Fire Chief Dan Goonan by his side, President Donald Trump declared the opioid epidemic a National Public Health Emergency yesterday.  That is something Mayor Ted Gatsas asked him to do in August and something he pressed then Governor Margaret Wood Hassan to do all through 2 0 1 6.  Hassan, who has criticized Trump on the epidemic, refused Gatsas’ request. Governor Chris Sununu and New Hampshire Homeland Security Director Perry Plummer will officially send-off the donations collected during the governor’s Puerto Rico Aid Drive, which was held on October third and fourth.  You might recall that Sununu encouraged Granite Staters to leave food on the State House Lawn during those two days.  Well, a lot of folks left a lot of food.  Sununu and Plummer will be surrounded by nearly five hundred pallets of goods, FEMA trucks, and state employees at the Department of Transportation Warehouse on Stickney Ave.  There will, of course, be some speechifying before the stores...
