What is the Superintendent in Laconia Hiding?

I’ve been searching for information on the mental health data collected and shared on students in the Laconia School District.  Accessing this information has become challenging, given the responses by the current Superintendent in the district, Brendan Minnihan. One thing is clear from the information that has been provided, mental health data on the students is leaving the district without parental knowledge or consent.  I have sent a request to the Attorney General in New Hampshire asking his office to conduct an investigation on New Hampshire schools.  I cited several Federal laws governing student privacy along with the recent passage...

Abortion Views Are Now Asked On Standardized Assessments?

I’ve been concerned about the kind of data the government is collecting on students who take standardized assessments.  Years ago we took achievement tests but today’s psychometric assessments are very different. Instead of testing for knowledge with an achievement test, schools are now using psychometric assessments on their values, attitudes and beliefs.  This is why many parents across the country are refusing to let their children take standardized assessments. I’ve testified before New Hampshire legislators against the Smarter Balanced “Assessment” and that it should be replaced with an achievement test.  Parents want to know if their children have mastered math facts and basic grammar.  They are not sending their children to school so the government can collect, store and share personal information on their children.  However that is exactly what is happening when your children participate in these standardized assessments. To make matters worse, because so many parents are now figuring out this testing scheme, the NH Department of Education is introducing new PACE assessments.  These are given more frequently (despite their claims that this reduces testing) and are based on “competencies.” Parents assume that when their students are being tested, that they are being tested on how well they retained the academics they learned in class.  Unfortunately the federal education reforms have little do do with excellence in academics and more to do with “assessing” your child’s values and beliefs. Teachers...

Dr. Czarnec on Eric Snowden’s Privacy Tips, NSA “Offenses”

(Hour 2b) Dr. Jeff Czarnec had some interesting privacy tips, courtesy of Eric Snowden.  Czarnec was tune in to a recent interview with Snowden. What is Czarnec’s assessment of Snowden?  A credible source? What are some of the steps we should be taking to protect our privacy from agencies like the NSA.  Is the NSA really busier stealing our data than they are chasing down terrorist leads? Are the two men leading the NSA really the most dangerous men in America? Jon DiPietro called in to help with the technical lingo and join the discussion. 06-13-2014 Hour...

On Air News Read for March 25, 2014

03-25-2014 News Hey, everybody, did you know we missed Obamacare‘s fourth birthday?  Yeah, it was last Friday, the twenty first, and thanks to a clever video we received from Citizens for a Strong N H, we were reminded.  In the video, representatives from the group tried to deliver birthday cakes to both Senator Jeanne Shaheen Health Care Queen and Congresswoman Carol Shea Porter.  The clueless hippie types in Shaheen’s office refused delivery of the cake saying that it might exceed federal gift limits and that they had no idea what the senator’s public events schedule was that day.  Attempts to deliver the cake to Shea-Porter at a public event in Manchester at the Community College, which is public property, were met with a rather hostile security type that threatened to have the cake deliverer arrested for trespassing if he didn’t leave as directed, even after acknowledging they were at a public event on public property.  We’ve linked to the amusing video for your convenience from this newscast at Girard at Large dot com.  Oh, and according to a press release sent by the New Hampshire State Republican Party, Manchester G O P Chair Tammy Simmons did, apparently, successfully delivere a birthday cake to Shaheen’s Manchester office, ensuring the senator could celebrate having cast the deciding vote that’s terminated twenty two thousand Granite Staters’ health insurance policies and driven premiums...

Hemingway releases “Privacy First” initiative.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 24, 2014 Contact: Alicia Preston [email protected] 603-892-3215   HEMINGWAY ANNOUNCES PROPOSED PRIVACY PROTECTONS FOR NH CITIZENS Candidate for Governor Releases “Privacy First” Plan   Manchester, N.H. –Candidate for New Hampshire Governor, Andrew Hemingway, today released the first in a series of legislative proposals and initiatives under his “Solutions First” platform.  “Privacy First” is a compilation of existing and new proposals to secure New Hampshire’s citizens from government intrusion and overuse of data collection on students, businesses and all individuals. “I believe strongly that privacy is an issue engrained in American culture, law, tradition and in the Constitution.  The authors of this great document may not have known the technology we would have more than two centuries later, but they did know government, when given the opportunity, will encroach on the liberties of individuals.  We must pro-actively stop this over-reach by the federal, state and local governments,” Hemingway said. In his proposal Hemingway outlines several concepts to protect New Hampshire citizens from the undue intrusion of government, both new and current pieces of legislation processing through Concord.  Representative Neil Kurk (R-Weare, NH), joined Hemingway to discuss privacy issues with Andrew. “We in New Hampshire value our privacy. We expect our government and our businesses to respect that. From license plate scanning to GPS monitoring, from eye-in-the-sky drones to cellphone tracking, our personal space must not be...
