Two Instances of Purse Snatchings in Manchester – MPD Needs Your Help

Tax Refund Lost During Cremeland Purse Snatching

MANCHESTER, NH- On Thursday, April 26, 2013, shortly after 5:00 PM, Manchester Police responded to the area of Union Street and Grove Street where a Derry couple had chased the man who had reportedly stolen the woman’s purse while she was at a restaurant on Valley Street.

The couple told Ofc. Matt Barter that they had just purchased food at Cremeland and were walking towards the picnic area on the east side of the building when a man suddenly grabbed the woman’s purse and ran off.  The couple chased after the suspect to the area of Union Street and Grove Street where he was ultimately able to elude them.

The woman’s purse contained an envelope with a significant amount of cash since she had just cashed an IRS Tax Return check.  She produced that envelope at Cremeland to pay for her food purchase and it possible the suspect noticed the money at that time.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20-25 years of age, about 5’10 to 6’00 tall with a thin build and a “high and tight” styled haircut.  He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and either red shorts or jeans.  The stolen purse is described as a black leather purse with a pink bow, containing a black wallet, along with assorted paperwork and that envelope of cash.

Burglar Steals Purse and Car

MANCHESTER, NH- On Friday, April 26, 2013, just before 2;00 AM, Manchester Police responded to a Cartier Street address for a burglary in progress.  On arrival, Ofc Victoria Catano met with a 56 year old woman and her 18 year old son.  The son reported to police that he had woken up in his bedroom to find an unknown man standing at the foot of his bed, rummaging through his backpack.

When the son sat up in bed, the suspect walked out of the room.  The mother, who was asleep on the living couch, told police she had not seen anyone inside the apartment but had heard some noises in the kitchen but presumed it was her son.

It is uncertain how the suspect entered the address but a purse and two cell phones were missing from the residence.  In addition, it appears the suspect used the keys he found inside the purse to take the victims’ vehicle, which was parked outside the address.  The stolen vehicle is described as a 2008 Toyota Scion, 4-door, blue bearing NH  60-dayTemp Registration 100205.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male with a thin build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt over a ball cap with a green brim.
