Current debates taking place in Washington D.C. concerning the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), of which the No Child Left Behind Act is the most recent iteration, have ignored evidence that has been collected over the past two decades beginning with the Improving America’s Schools Act of 1994 that clearly demonstrates that high-stakes testing has contributed nothing to improve public education.   Policies that promote the notion that testing should drive curriculum fail our students.  Nevertheless, legislators have chosen to ignore the evidence.  Could such behavior have anything to do with lobbyists from the testing industry?
