Diane Sekula, a local 6th, 7th and 8th grade teacher, discussed with Sid how high-stakes testing and its first cousin, The Common Core, has negatively transformed the nature and character of the public school experience for our children.  Authoritarianism has replaced professionalism as scripted lessons, coercion, and intimidation replaced creativity and innovation in the classroom.  Blind acceptance of whatever comes down from above and a no-questioning school climate has put the democratic process on hold.  Much of our children’s education is being sacrificed on the altar of know-nothing political thinking.   Since there is so much more to discuss Diane will return to  our show during the summer.
