For Immediate Release
MANCHESTER, NH July 20, 2021–The campaign of Republican Manchester mayoral candidate Richard Girard released the endorsement of former Ward 11 Alderman Tom Robert, today. Robert, a Republican, is believed to be the only Republican to ever hold that seat in Ward 11. Knick named “Mr. Chips” because of his employment as a delivery driver for Frito-Lay, Robert served three terms from 1992-1998. He was known as a staunch conservative who focused on cutting spending and taxes and improving public safety. He helped found and personally patrolled with Neighborhood Watch groups, notably in the neighborhoods around Granite Square and lower Douglas St; areas that had, for years, been neglected by the city and the ward’s elected officials alike.
In accepting the endorsement, Girard praised Robert’s grass roots approach and selfless service to his constituents. “Tom related to the ‘working man’ because he was one of them. He lived in a triple decker in Dubuque St. and understood what had to happen to improve the quality of life in his neighborhoods. His attention to the ward really helped bring it back to life. Equally as important, he was one of the best budget hawks I’ve ever worked with. With the tax base shrinking by the day, budgeting in the 1990s was really tough, even more so than it is today. Tom could always be counted on to hold the line on spending to keep taxes in check. I am honored to have his support.”
Statement of support from former Ward 11 Alderman Tom Robert:
I think it’s great Rich is finally running for mayor! He has the knowledge, experience and passion to get Manchester on the right track again. Rich is the fighter Manchester needs now!
Rich was always someone I could approach for information and perspective during my time as an Alderman. He managed the Mayor’s office productively and kept the legislative process on track. I could count on him to be there when I needed him for my constituents needs.
