NH Energy Efficiency Programs Earn Top Honors
EPA Recognizes PSNH and Core Utilities
MANCHESTER, N.H., March 28, 2013

 — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Public Service of New Hampshire and the NH CORE Utilities its 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for their contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emission by delivering energy efficiency information and services to their customers. The award was presented this week at an EPA ceremony in Washington D.C. The New Hampshire utilities also earned the 2013 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for their long-term commitment to energy efficiency.

PSNH, Liberty Utilities, the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative and Unitil were honored for their successful promotion of the “ENERGY STAR Homes Program,” which is aimed at the new home construction market, and the “Home Performance with ENERGY STAR” program, under which existing homes are weatherized.

American families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the last 20 years, with help from ENERGY STAR.

“The New Hampshire Core Utilities have set the bar for promoting energy-efficient products and services that save money and energy while protecting the environment,” said Bob Perciasepe, Acting Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “Their program delivery methods demonstrated how communities across the nation can protect the climate through greater energy efficiency and provide a road map for future program implementers.”

The Sustained Excellence Award recognized the New Hampshire CORE Utilities role in the Northeast Retail Products Initiative, which is facilitated by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) and made up of utilities and energy efficiency program administrators in New England, New York, and Washington D.C.

In New Hampshire, the programs implemented by PSNH and the Core Utilities have saved 6.5 billion lifetime kilowatt-hours of energy, benefiting both customers and the state economy. Based on the CORE Program expenditures, this represents a return for customers of $7 for every program dollar invested.
