Girard at Large has learned that Monday’s meeting between NH Commissioner of Education Virginia Barry and the school districts of the South Central region has been changed.  Here’s the notice:

All:
It’s necessary to change the venue for Monday’s meeting with school district officials and the Commissioner.  Rather than using SERESC as planned, we will meet in the auditorium at Bedford High School.  The purpose of our meeting has not changed.  This still is an opportunity for sitting school boards and central office administrators to hear from the Commissioner regarding the Waiver and Common Core Standards.  Our interest is to provide an opportunity to hear one message from the State’s education leader and ask questions relevant to that message.

The need to change locations comes from uncertainty about numbers attending.  Some public discussions about our meeting have resulted in unanticipated interest from various groups.  Rather than convey a public appearance that something hidden or secretive is planned, I decided that it’s best to keep the meeting as scheduled but change the location to Bedford High’s auditorium.  We could have four unanticipated guests or we might have forty-four.  There is no way of gauging a low or high number so it’s unfair to ask SERESC to accommodate us.  Rich LaSalle understands my concern and will have a sign on the door at SERESC announcing the location change.

Tim offered Bedford’s auditorium, and I believe this is a wonderful alternative for all involved.  With more than eighty school district officials from south central planning to attend, there is a clear interest and need for this opportunity. The only downside?  Tim’s not providing coffee and dessert.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all.

            Enjoy your weekend.
Best regards,
Mike
