Sid Glassner Orange(Hour 3b, c)

(Hour 3b) Senior Fellow Sid Glassner shared some important news with us this morning that represents the sort of commitment to kids Sid believes we need to see everywhere.

Glassner read from 2 documents from Vermont, a state that is refusing to cave in to the dictates from the U.S. Dept. of Education (No Child Left Behind).

Vermont is one of six states taking a heroic stance and refusing to become “Test Preparation Factories.”

(Hour 3c) Glassner read the leter to parents that the Vermont Agency of Education sent out in response to the “low performing” label assigned to them by “the absurd” Arne Duncan.

Glassner had ALOT to say about “the absurd” guidelines the US DOE uses to measure “underperforming schools.”  The State of Vermont basically told the federal government to pound sand.

How has Vermont done since?  A 2013 study ranked Vermont 7th in the world in math and 4th in science.  Only the State of Massachusetts did better.  Vermont consistently ranks at the HIGHEST LEVELS.

Glassner congratulated the leaders in Vermont for the fortitude and courage they’ve exhibited in taking the Feds to task.  And for remaining committed to a better education for the kids.
