Livingston Pool June 15 2004June 23, 20-14 MANCHESTER, NH – – The City of Manchester has 15 openings for certified lifeguards to work at its five aquatic facilities for $13.70 per hour. Eligible candidates must be: 17 years of age or older, be a certified lifeguard and must pass the swimming and written skills evaluation.

“The State is experiencing a shortage of certified lifeguards”, explains Recreation Enterprise Manager Andy Vachon. “The shortage has caused vacancies that we need to fill as quickly as possible, so none of our aquatic facilities experience any disruptions in service over the summer.”    Andy went on to say, “One of the reasons contributing to the shortage of qualified applicants is the substantial cost associated with the certification course.  The good news is we have a plan to help candidates get certified while significantly reducing their cost”.

The City of Manchester Parks and Recreation Division, in conjunction with SwimNH, will offer the three day Lifeguard Certification course on June 26, 27 and 29th at a reduced cost of $275.00.  Additionally, the Parks and Recreation Division will reimburse half that cost to any applicant who passes the course and fulfills the fulltime summer working session. Morning swim sessions will be held at Hunt Pool (297 Maple Street) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM daily, while the afternoon classroom sessions will be at the Department of Public Works (475 Valley Street) from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily.
