School boards are complicated institutions that keep getting more complex as time goes by and Rich Girard, who just completed his first year as a school board member shared with us his experiences and reactions to that first year.  Challenges abound everywhere; in curriculum, finances, staffing, negotiations; technology; transportation; student distribution, state and federal regulations, and special education are only a few areas to which the board devotes considerable time and effort.  This past year the board devoted many hours to the selection of a new superintendent and presently it is the budget for the next school year that summons the efforts of all board members.
