Sid Glassner

Sid used his favorite mantra about reading –“A reader is one who reads, not one who can” to get involved in another one of his critiques about how we teach reading in our schools.  Beholden to those publishers who produce reading materials (a very profitable business) American public schools spend billions of dollars on reading programs and materials that have not, in any manner shape or form, significantly improved neither the teaching nor the learning to read.  Yet we continue to repeat the same mistakes and ensure that we are not a reading nation.  Sid began to discuss the college application process from the viewpoint of college admissions officers and what advice they give their own children.
