The Manchester Young Democrats have sent an email urging their supporters to contact the Manchester Board of School Committee in support of a controversial policy it adopted on January 25, 2021 about transgendered students.  The policy is being reconsidered at the board’s meeting this Monday, February 8, at 6 PM.

In the email, which is provided in full below, the Manchester Young Dems claim support is needed to “protect transgender students in Manchester from discrimination!”  However, the email does not identify what discrimination transgender students would suffer were the policy to be overturned, nor does it identify what discrimination is being remedied by the policy.

After giving instructions on how to provide comments, it goes on to say this:

You do not have to be a Manchester resident to submit a public comment. If you are a student or if you have a personal story to share, your story is welcomed.  (Emphasis in the original.)

From there, it maligns the policy’s opponents while failing to describe the “protections” it calls on supporters to ensure “remain in place.”

Here is the email as received by Girard at Large.  Our thanks to the member of our Large and Loyal Audience who sent it to us!

We need your help to protect transgender students in Manchester from discrimination! The Board of School Committee (BOSC) recently amended district policy to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity, but now some members of the board are trying to overturn that policy.

When the BOSC meets on Monday, 2/8, they will again consider the policy. That means from now until then we need to submit as many comments in support of the policy as possible!

First, email your public comment to publiccomment@mansd.org. Then, email your comment to the full board by clicking this link. Comments can be no longer than 400 words and must be submitted no later than Monday, 2/8 at 5 pm. They will be read aloud during the BOSC meeting on Monday.

You do not have to be a Manchester resident to submit a public comment. If you are a student or if you have a personal story to share, your story is welcomed.

Every student deserves to access the resources they need at school without the fear of discrimination. We cannot let a small but vocal minority trample the rights of students, push fear and falsehoods, and overturn the progress the BOSC is making in our schools.

Email your message now to ensure that these protections remain in place.

Thank you,

The Manchester Young Democrats
